Musical Director (Da Capo)
Kathryn Brace B.Ed (Hons)
Kathryn has been interested in music from a young age. Whilst at junior school she was encouraged to play an instrument. Kathryn chose to play the Violin and tuition continued during her time in secondary education, which resulted in her becoming a member of the Mid Glamorgan Youth Orchestra. Furthering her interest in music, she undertook private tuition in the playing of the piano and classical guitar and obtained The Associated Board of The Royal Schools of Music qualifications in the three instruments.
Both Kathryn's parents were members of the mixed choir Côr Godre'r Garth and Kathryn joined as a member of the alto section. At this time she was also a member of the Mid Glamorgan Youth Choir and enjoyed many courses of a week's duration prior to concerts at different venues. She continued as a chorister with these choirs until she entered college.
Kathryn graduated from Trinity College, Carmarthen in 1990 having studied music as her main subject. She was then appointed to the teaching staff at Mynydd Cynffig Junior School where she has curriculum responsibilities for music and Welsh. She soon established the school choir for pupils in years five and six. The choir has been involved in community activities for many years including concerts with Kenfig Hill and District Male Voice Choir and charity concerts with the choir Sounds Familiar.
Following the successful inclusion of a combined junoir school's choir in the Kenfig Hill and District Male Voice Choir's 40th anniversary concert, Kathryn was invited to form a junior choir for children aged 9-13 years under the auspices of the male voice choir. She was delighted to be given the opportunity and created the children's choir, Da Capo. Kathryn looks forward to a long future with the choir and to being part of an excellent music team.
