Geriant John

Geraint's interest in music began at the age of 11 when he began teaching himself to play the keyboard he had been given for Christmas. Shortly afterwards, he began learning to play the cornet at Cymer Afan Comprehensive School whilst also joining the local church choir where he also began teaching himself to play the organ. He then received a scholarship from the Royal School of Church Music to receive organ tuition at Llandaff Cathedral. Geraint later became Head Chorister at St. John The Baptist Church, Glyncorrwg before later taking on the role of Organist and Director of Music. Geraint is also resident organist at St. Michael & All Angels Church in Maesteg. Geraint has also played the cornet with Briton Ferry Silver Band and the Tata Steel (Formerly British Steel / Corus) Brass Band for several years.

Upon leaving school, Geraint attended Neath Port Talbot College to study the sciences with the aim of studying health care at university. After completing a foundation year at Swansea University, Geraint decided to concentrate on a career in music however he has not given up on his interest in Health Care and still finds time to volunteer at the local hospitals.

Geraint's first position as a Musical Director came in May 2010 when he took on the role with Port Talbot & District Amateur Operatic Society's Youth Theatre for their production of ‘Bugsy Malone' and was invited to continue the position which he gladly accepted. In December 2010, Geraint was invited to take over the position of Musical Director of Sounds Familiar Mixed Choir, Porthcawl. In March 2011, Geraint was appointed Assistant Musical Director of Kenfig Hill & District Male Voice Choir after acting as a guest conductor for a St. David's Day concert. He enjoys working with the choir and also enjoys working with the Youth Choir ‘Crescendo' from time to time.

Even though Geraint is out of the house for rehearsals every night of the week, he enjoys working with all the groups he works. Geraint also sings with Noteworthy Mixed Choir and is currently studying for a BA (Hons) degree with the Open University.
